Tasks typically follow each other, in a more or less funnel-kind of way. This means that improvements in earlier steps propagate to later steps, and small improvements across each step compound into much greater improvements for the whole system.

Work the System - Sam Carpenter is one of the books that explores systematizing, which is a universal way of improving execution.

Also, Goodness is viral. It leads to increased morale, raises the bar for everyone, and the energy is contagious.

This doesn't contradict that Hard work is necessary. Rather, it shows that hard work leads to increased skill which in turn leads to increased execution.
